‘’Hello I Sara Ahmed, am a visual and conceptual artist. An ardent seeker of art and nature, working across multimedia art and design practices.’’

Art for me is an investigation, a journey which allows me to capture the intricacies of abstract elements in and around nature. As an emerging artist, I primarily work with a combination of colour and pattern which has been the driving force behind most of the artworks. Before capturing them, I spend longer durations in understanding the natural light, colours, patterns, textures and stillness in a specific space — a river bed in the wilderness, a raindrop trickling down a branch, a bird’s nest in the midst of hundred trees . It is through this process of intimate discovery that I begin to recognise the subject matter and the qualities I intend to focus on. In the process of creating art, I often attempt to blur the lines between the obvious and the unseen. Quite often when I cast my eyes on to the wilderness, I see how quickly my mind trials, mounts, and labels the scene, clasps on to imageries, and impulsively divides them into many kind; such as the soft sound of the wind touching the pines; the glow of sunlight peeping through the trees; the faded sound of a distant bird; the temperature, and the pure smell of nature. These moments call me to indulge in natural spaces. What I observe in nature becomes the core of my art that tells the story I want people to hear. The task is to see past the interferences of the conspicuous, in order to capture its unique self. My goal is to inspire those who see my creations, to look more carefully at the world around them, to discover beauty in unusual spaces.

Attistique approaches

My work is representative with a slight symbolism edge, it is also a space within which I remix and re-examine my discoveries. I reach across through an interdisciplinary approach, in order to create the relationships I seek in any specific work. Throughout the process, I reflect on my relationship with nature. I want my work to incorporate a self-reflexive dialogue with time and space —how it is created, what meaning it produces, and how those meanings reflect on me and my own perceptions—in order to open up a space for larger discussions. Ultimately I see my work as a series of exchanges of meaning, a reflection on relationships– with the aim of articulating connections between entities. What I want to express through my art is rejoice the mortal, focus on the marks people make on the world. Treasure the native, the modest, the peculiar, the ordinary: whatever is made out of compassion. Respect what people have built for themselves and others. Discover the beauty in a tattered old porch or cluttered cutleries, while it still stands till it lasts.
